UPLAN Leaders Share Expertise on Parent Leadership!

UPLAN’s message is getting out there in 2018! Organizations across the country are asking UPLAN parent leaders to their share expertise on parent leadership.

In January, UPLAN parent leader and Governing Council member Julia Sosa from the Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE), Donna Thompson-Bennett Co-Director of the National Parent Leadership Institute (NPLI), and UPLAN National Organizer Erin Moore shared their views on The Role of Parent Leadership in Improving Student Achievement and Building Equity in a webinar sponsored by UPLAN partner, the National Association for Family, School, and Community Engagement (NAFSCE). Also, Governing Council members Toyin Anderson of NPLI and Rosazlia Grillier of Community Organizing and Family Issues (COFI) attended the Supporting Family Math convening in New Orleans. UPLAN was featured on a panel, Authentically Integrating Parents into a Family Math Movement, speaking about the value of parents leading the development of family-school partnerships.

Lastly, Governing Council member Rachel Harralson of Parent Voices attended the launch for the Engage for Equity Toolkit in Washington DC. Authored by Partners for Each and Every Child (P4), Dignity in Schools Campaign (DSC), and NAACP Legal Defense Fund, the toolkit supports organizers to engage communities on the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). UPLAN was asked to help develop a parent toolkit and gave input during a session at the National Gathering in Albuquerque.

UPLAN looks forward to more opportunities to bring parent leaders’ expertise into education, organizing, and policy work across the country through our partnerships!
