UPLAN Talks Child Care, Parent Engagement, and Immigration on Capitol Hill

UPLAN parent leaders Toyin Anderson and Dru Hill, along with UPLAN and member organization staff, took to Washington DC to strategize on and advance the idea of affordable and accessible child care for all families! On October 23rd, they gathered with other national leaders and organizers to learn more about the Child Care for Working Families Act, a UPLAN-endorsed bill. Then, on October 24th, they took to the Hill to talk with legislators about the need for affordable quality childcare. For more information about the bill, take a look here.

While in DC, parent leaders met again with the U.S. Department of Education to advance the idea of a parent advisory council. In their meeting with the Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy, UPLAN won a commitment to translate the Department of Education’s “Sensitive Locations Fact Sheet” into Spanish. And UPLAN’s efforts won the creation of a family engagement stakeholders meeting – a great step forward!
