UPLAN Makes Connections at Family and Community Engagement Conference

UPLAN spread the word about parent leadership and organizing at the Institute for Educational Leadership’s National Family and Community Engagement Conference in San Francisco June 22-24, 2017. UPLAN was featured in the closing plenary where three Governing Council members – Regina Elmi, Rosazlia Grillier, and Zully Rodriguez – delivered keynote speeches about their experiences and visions as parent leaders. Additionally, UPLAN held a workshop, Parents as Decision-Makers and Policy Leaders, with over 70 participants. Several of UPLAN’s member groups, including Abriendo Puertas, COFI (Community Organizing and Family Issues), and NPLTI (National Parent Leadership Training Institute) also led workshops on their approaches to parent leadership. Finally, UPLAN met with several collaborators including the National Association of Family, School and Community Engagement (NAFSCE) and the Annenberg Institute for School Reform to strategize about its policy platform and cross-network learning goals. UPLAN is looking forward to building upon these connections and advancing its agenda.
