The UPLAN Policy Committee on Real Parent Engagement spent months thinking of ways for UPLAN members to come together as a UPLAN family and share about their local work and strategies across the network. This month we celebrate their efforts and lift up UPLAN’s first ever online ‘Huddle’!
On September 5, UPLAN held our first huddle – a videoconference for parents and staff from our member organizations to learn from and dialogue with each other. Eighteen UPLAN members joined together to learn about, “Parents Leading the Way Increasing Equity in Our Schools”! Parent leader Sara Morrison, Danielle Asher, and Jacob Dixon from Choice for All – Family Leadership Network, and parent leader Julia Sosa and Sonia Rodriguez from Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE) shared about their parent-led work to advance equity in education.
The first huddle was a huge success, with 100% of participants who responded to a survey saying the huddle helped them feel more connected to UPLAN and other members. One member said it was a “terrific forum for connection and learning!”
Thank you to the presenters, attendees, and the planning committee. Stay tuned for more information about our next huddle, and contact UPLAN if you would like to share your work in the future!
