The Family Math Roadmap Project (FMRP) is partnering with UPLAN to develop a Parent Advisory Council (PAC) to give input on a national plan to support Family Math. Parent leaders from UPLAN member organizations applied, and ten were selected to serve on the PAC for the next year to co-lead the development of an equitable Family Math agenda along with the Family Math Coordinating Committee. On June 11-13, the PAC launched with a three day in-person meeting in Chicago, IL. Parents were joined by Sandra Gutierrez from Abriendo Puertas / Opening Doors and Brinnie Ramsey from Education First as liaisons to the Family Math Coordinating Committee.
Parents lifted up their stories, experiences, and voices from their communities to give recommendations and feedback to the Family Math Coordinating Committee. They gave input on the FMRP structure, strategy, program, documents/resources, and much more. They met parents engaged in local Family Math initiatives from Community Organizing and Family Issues (COFI), and learned how they are making math fun, accessible, and engaging for families. They also elected three PAC members to serve as representatives on the Family Math Coordinating Committee to ensure parent voices are being heard at the decision-making tables. We lift up the parent leaders serving on the PAC and all parents engaged in Family Math work at local, state, and national levels!
