UPLAN Parents Take Action on Funds for Child Care and Early Learning!

Congress passed a spending bill on March 22 that increased federal funds for child care and early education by more than $3 billion! This historic change would not be possible without the voices of parents who have worked tirelessly calling for needed resources for early care.

UPLAN sent over 230 letters to members of Congress advocating for a spending bill to uphold the commitments to child care and early learning that were made in the federal budget bill. UPLAN members adapted the letter and sent it to their representatives, while others posted on social media. A big thanks to all who took action leading up to this victory! The bill increases funds for the Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG) by $2.37 billion, and also increases funds for Head Start and other key early education programs.

As these funds are divided among the states, UPLAN will support parents to raise their voices to ensure that dollars are used to increase access to care and meet the real needs of families. Look for more from UPLAN about state advocacy!

The federal spending bill does not do enough to protect immigrant families. UPLAN will continue to be part of the fight for a Clean Dream Act. The struggle continues for policies that promote the success and well-being of all children and families, even as we celebrate this important milestone.
