On December 5th, ten UPLAN parent leaders from the across the country gathered in Washington, D.C. to launch our membership drive. We also shared our Founding Vision: A Policy Platform for Children and Families and our priority issues.
Our most immediate policy focus areas are:
1) calling for a new federal Office of Parent Engagement,
2) increasing resources for and affordability of early care and education,
3) protecting immigrant families, and
4) implementing the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) in a way that advances our policy platform.
Join us to make sure parent voices are heard on these issues and more that matter to families and children. Be part of a powerful and growing network of parent leaders and organizations!
If you are a parent leader, join here. If you’re representing a parent leadership or organizing initiative, join here.
At the meeting, we shared personal stories. Regina (above) told how she has used her own experiences as a Somali immigrant mom to help other Somali parents trying to navigate the school system. Notable quote: “Parents are the most important asset that our school buildings hold.”
